Ya, I have nothing to do 95% of the time while I'm in office. I'm not quite sure why my boss has employed me in the first place. He has told me of the great plans he has for the near future many times before. But I'm still waiting for him to allocate to me the execution portion of his great plans. It has been 3 months. And I'm still waiting. All these while, I've been assigning myself mini ad-hoc projects by attaching myself to my branch mates, pestering them to pass me any work they can't finish. But there aren't many such assignments. The boredom is really killing me. That's why I'm serving my notice now. And maybe becos I'm serving my notice, I'm even more unassigned than before. Arrrggh!
The unsatisfying job scope aside, I actually get along very well with my colleagues and enjoy having breakfast, lunch and bridge sessions with them. There are plenty of interaction time among one another and opportunities to know my colleagues well are abundant. I've already been to a teamwork retreat (that's when I got to know most people), the deepavali celebrations, X'mas celebrations, department games and get together session in office and branch high tea at Marriot. All within the last 3 months. So it's rather difficult to stay aloof and act as if we are nothing but just working colleagues. In fact a couple of them have already advanced beyond the just-colleagues' category to the friends' category. A great place for bonding friendship I must say.
However the unassigned time I get at work is really too much for me to handle. I'm too unutilized and I'm wasting away. I feel like I've been flinged from one extreme to the other, from the previous job that eats up every single minute of my time to one that offers overwhelming amounts of time. And to think that I was actually dying to get out of the former job and couldn't wait to plunge into this current "dream" job. Haha. It's only at such time when I've experienced both extremes that I learn to appreciate the in-betweens.
I really hope the next job that I'm moving to will be something like this:
-Busy yet not too busy
-Stressful but not too stressful
-Enough time for leisure, and myself but yet not too much that I don't know how to spend it
-Boss who is not too bossy or fussy
-Colleagues that are not too alike or different
I'm so hard to please isn't it? :)
